The Future of Cinema with Douglas Trumbull

An interesting video discussing how the use of high-framerate video may improve perception of Stereo 3D by keeping image edges blur-free akin to real-life.

Edit: The original video of the post has been made ‘private’ by the owner but the link is here.  Here is an updated video featuring Douglas Trumbull on a similar subject.

Whether the image retains that traditional ‘cinematic’ feeling is a matter which has been greatly debated but this technique lends itself to Stereo 3D very well. From a practical perspective, increased frame-rates also require larger, faster media storage and more complex shooting, VFX, editing and grading workflows with more frames to handle.
